Summer’s finally making an appearance (on some days, at least!) – and that means it’s time for BBQs, garden get-togethers, and dining al fresco.
Now, I wouldn’t recommend taking your Thermomix outside in classic British drizzle, but believe it or not, some of my owners do take theirs camping and caravanning!
This month’s featured recipes might not all be cooked start-to-finish in your Thermie, but it absolutely earns its place as your sous chef. Think homemade BBQ sauce while you grill, fresh salads on the side, cocktails for sipping – all prepped with ease.
🥗 Summer Cooking with Thermomix
Lighter meals and fresh flavours are what summer’s all about – and your Thermomix is the ultimate shortcut to prepping vibrant salads and seasonal dishes without the faff.
✅ Chop & Shred in Seconds
Use the Chop function or the Cutter to quickly shred cabbage, carrots, beetroot or cucumber for slaws, sides and salads – perfect texture every time, no grating involved.
✅ Whip Up Dressings from Scratch
Forget store-bought bottles – blitz your own salad dressings in under 30 seconds. Try balsamic vinaigrette, creamy herb, or zingy lemon tahini.
✅ Cook Grains Perfectly
Use the simmering basket or Varoma to cook couscous, bulgur wheat, quinoa or rice to perfection – great salad bases, ready in minutes.
✅ Make It a Meal
Turn a side into a full meal by mixing in Thermomix-prepped proteins like shredded chicken, soft-boiled eggs, marinated tofu or flaked salmon.
✅ Keep It Cool
Prep ahead and store salads or dressings in jars or containers – Thermomix helps you batch-chop and portion efficiently so you’re always picnic-ready.
Featured Recipes
It’s time to get the BBQs out, although in typical fashion, it’s raining outside while I write this and summer seems a million miles away. Don’t worry, it’ll be back soon enough, so what to cook?
Everyone can whack a steak, sausages or burger on a grill, but this is your chance to wow with a choice of recipes available on Cookidoo – Thermomix’s recipe platform. My first dish to showcase is Barbecued Pork Ribs. Make the sauce in the Thermomix, marinade the ribs and pop them on the barbecue for some tasty, smoky meat. If it is raining, then these can be cooked in the oven as well.
If a vegetarian option is for you, give the Grilled Tofu Steaks with Asian Mushrooms a go. You’ll cook the sauce and mushrooms in the Thermomix, and get the barbecue flavour cooking the tofu; or if it’s raining, the tofu can be griddled.
The best BBQs have sides aplenty, and of course there are options that you can make in the Thermomix, whatever model you have. Coleslaw is the perfect salad dish to add to a barbecue, and so quick to shred all the ingredients with the Thermomix. If you fancy zhuzhing this side up, why not try Southern Coleslaw or Hawaiian Coleslaw?
If it’s a sauce you’re after, the Sweet Onion and Maple BBQ Sauce is a good option. For something a little different, White BBQ Sauce is a tangy alternative. You can find more inspiration in the Barbecue collection.
The final addition? A drink of course! A classic cocktail that’s perfect for warm summer evenings is a Cosmopolitan, or a CosNOpolitan for an alcohol free version. One of my absolute faves is the Bellini Cocktail.
I’d love to hear about your Thermomix barbecue choices; add your photos and experiences in the Facebook community.
